The Odyssey Health Insurer Journey
When someone is away from work, the impact ripples outward — affecting their well-being, their family, their workplace, and the broader community. And yet, research from Canada’s National Institute of Disability Management and Research shows that only 20% of workers return to work after a two-year absence.
Odyssey Health is changing that. Our success rate is more than three times higher — even for people off work much longer.
Persistence, decades of experience in the insurance world, a proprietary evidence-based approach, and a proven belief that what you focus on can change everything, are just part of the reason for those results. The other part is people like you, who believe that everyone deserves the best chance possible to get back to work, function and life.
This is that chance.
How We Work
This is a brief summary of our fully documented step-by-step process. See our program overview for treatment details about our programs.
1
You (the insurer) send the referral and other required information to our Intake Coordinator.
2
Once reviewed by our team, we’ll either recommend the client to our short-term Express Program, or recommend a thorough assessment for clients best served by our longer-term Excursion and Expedition Programs. We will also have a detailed background discussion with you and our psychologist prior to assessment.
3
Once screenings and/or assessments are complete, we share our treatment recommendations with you and other members of the client’s care team.
4
Once treatment is approved, personalized programs begin. They can include Acceptance & Commitment Therapy skill building, Behaviour Activation, planned activities incorporating the client’s interests and daily tasks, client self-monitoring of activities and goals, and other tools.
5
Regular ongoing communication between you and Odyssey Health is crucial to our shared success, including written progress reports sent monthly, and phone calls and emails whenever the need arises.
6
Once treatment achieves its goals, we hold a fit-to-work meeting to share our proposed return-to-work plan which can include vocational strategies for finding alternate employment if the client chooses.
7
You will receive a final discharge report when the file is closed.
What insurers especially like
We talk – a lot
We've learned that the more we communicate with and learn from you, the better the results. So, in addition to our scheduled check-ins, we encourage you to check-in anytime about anything.
The same tools for everyone
Whether a client's challenges are straightforward or complex, we stay true to the same proven, expertly-delivered therapies and tools for every client regardless of their program, personalized to their lives, values and goals. No shortcuts, no "lite" versions, and no cookie-cutter solutions.
A better return – to work and on investment
We only begin a return to work when we're sure that the client can confidently manage work, home and other inevitable life stressors. We also provide ongoing support during the transition until they're successfully working full-time. Readier is better, for everyone.
We make the case
Our assessments are extremely comprehensive, but Insurers appreciate the detail, process and inclusiveness. Being thorough upfront leads to the right treatment program choice, saving money, time and frustration down the road.
